Our History
Home Again Horse Rescue was founded by Juliet Sosebee-Freedman. She has worked with horses since childhood, taught riding, and even holds a B.S. in Equine Science. However, working with horses was not enough. She wanted to give back to this kind and noble creature.
After years in the equine community, it became very evident that not all horses have the charmed life of childhood novels. This was particularly clear, one very fateful horse shopping day. There was a riding horse for sale that Juliet took a friend to see, but when she arrived, she was disgusted at what she found. The advertised gelding was an emaciated rack of bones. He could barely walk due to a lack of hoof care and he was infested with parasites. She immediately brought the horse home and slowly nursed him back to health.
A year later, the horse was adopted to a loving home, where he lived out the rest of his years. This was the beginning of Home Again Horse Rescue.
Since then, our organization has nursed and nurtured sick, elderly and neglected horses back to health, much like the original gelding that came so many years ago.
Since then, founders Mr. and Mrs. Freedman have built a ten stall facility that is donated to the use of the rescue. It is located in Upper Marlboro, MD.
However, the facility is not all we need to care for our rescue horses. It costs us on average $200 a month per horse to care for our needy animals. We operate solely on donations and are in critical need.
*All donations go directly to the care of the animals and are tax deductible.
